Angela Dunleavy, Princess Ayers-Stewart, and Katie Garrow have been elected to WDC Board leadership as Board Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary, respectively. Angela Dunleavy

Board Chair

Angela Dunleavy is an accomplished senior executive and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the consumer retail sector and deep knowledge of social entrepreneurship and nonprofit management. Angela serves as CEO at FareStart, a James Beard Award-winning nonprofit organization that transforms lives, disrupts poverty, and nourishes communities through food, life skills, and job training. When COVID struck in March 2020, Angela led FareStart through a pivot to provide access to meals for thousands of vulnerable neighbors in the wake of the crisis, delivering over 2 million meals throughout the Seattle area.

Prior to her role at FareStart, Angela was co-founder and CEO of Ethan Stowell Restaurants, a Seattle-based hospitality group. Angela volunteers on several local boards, including United Way of King County, the Downtown Seattle Association, and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

Princess Ayers-Stewart is a dynamic thought leader devoted to ending discrimination and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion. A lawyer by training, Princess has spent her career working toward spaces that are inclusive of ideas and experiences from people of diverse ethnic and racial identities. Princess currently serves as Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for REI, in addition to serving as Chief Consultant for the Ayers-Stewart Group. In previous roles Princess has served as Chief of Workforce Diversity and Inclusion for Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Director of Global Diversity for Starbucks. Princess has served on the WDC’s Board since 2015. As Chair of the WDC’s Youth Committee, she directed investments for in-school and out-of-school youth across King County. Princess also played an integral role in the WDC’s transformation as part of the Transformation Steering Committee.

Princess has formal education in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, studied Law with the Chicago-Kent College of Law, and earned a Master of Laws degree in employee benefits from The John Marshall Law School. In addition to the WDC, Princess volunteers on the board of the Seattle Metro Chamber of Commerce.

 

Katie Garrow

Secretary

Deputy Director, MLK Labor

Katie Garrow is the Deputy Director at MLK Labor—the 150,000 member Seattle-area labor council dedicated to building power for workers and advancing social and economic justice. In her capacity there, she directs the council’s political work, and is the policy lead on workforce development.

Prior to her role at MLK Labor, Katie was a union organizer. She’s fluent in Spanish and has her bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University.
