Neighborhood House receives $270,000 in WIOA funding for Seattle-King County
Information from Neighborhood House.
Seattle, WA – Neighborhood House received $275,000 in Workforce Innovations and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding thanks to Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. This new investment is part of an additional $4.1 million in federal funding for key projects Congresswoman Jayapal secured for our region.
This program helps job seekers to connect with living wage jobs, and Neighborhood House really targets communities that are hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically people who are low-income, BIPOC, immigrants, and refugees. This investment promotes equitable recovery from COVID-19 and increase opportunities for communities experiencing economic disparities.
- Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal
The funding will allow Neighborhood House to hire additional dedicated, multi-lingual staff members that have the expertise and community trust to support people on their chosen path to a living wage job and wealth for themselves and future generations. Two examples of the impact this investment will have are below.
Neighborhood House helped a rideshare driver from Ethiopia secure Pandemic Unemployment benefits and training and certification to obtain his Commercial Driver’s license. He now makes $55/hour as a commercial truck driver.
Neighborhood House also helped an Afghan refugee (who arrived in 2021) with rental assistance, transportation, and tuition for a computer programming boot camp; he is teaching computer skills to other refugees while he continues his studies.
Neighborhood House has been a consistently strong performer on its WIOA contracts thanks to the trust it has built through its long history of working in our region’s diverse communities, the cultural and linguistic competence of its staff, and its 20 year track record in providing employment services.

We are so grateful to Congresswoman Jayapal for helping us bring economic opportunity to people that have been most impacted by the ravages of COVID, systemic racism, or war in their home countries.
- Janice Deguchi, Executive Director, Neighborhood House
For over 100 years, Neighborhood House has been creating opportunities for people in King County experiencing language, cultural, and systemic barriers to live longer, happier, and healthier lives. Each year, they connect over 14,000 Seattle and King County residents to housing, health, education, and economic opportunity.
